Course Title: Physics

Course Description: This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of physics, including mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, and modern physics. Students will develop analytical and problem-solving skills while learning about the behavior of matter and energy.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principles of classical mechanics, including kinematics, dynamics, and energy conservation.
  • Learn about the laws of thermodynamics and their applications in everyday life and technology.
  • Familiarize with the properties of electricity and magnetism, including electric and magnetic fields, and their interactions with matter.
  • Explore the concepts of waves and optics, including light and sound waves, reflection, and refraction.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of modern physics, such as quantum mechanics, relativity, and nuclear physics.

Course Outline:

Week 1: Introduction to Physics

  • History of Physics: Major milestones and contributions of famous physicists.
  • Basic Concepts: Units, measurement, and scientific notation.
  • Laws of Motion: Newton’s laws of motion, force, and inertia.

Week 2: Mechanics

  • Kinematics: Motion in one dimension, displacement, velocity, and acceleration.
  • Dynamics: Forces, mass, and Newton’s laws of motion.
  • Energy Conservation: Kinetic, potential, and total energy.

Week 3: Work, Power, and Machines

  • Work: Definition and calculation of work done by a force.
  • Power: Definition and calculation of power.
  • Simple Machines: Levers, pulleys, and inclined planes.

Week 4: Waves and Sound

  • Types of Waves: Transverse and longitudinal waves.
  • Characteristics of Waves: Wavelength, frequency, and amplitude.
  • Sound Waves: Properties of sound, speed of sound, and sound intensity.

Week 5: Heat and Thermodynamics

  • Temperature: Scales of temperature and their interconversion.
  • Thermal Expansion: Expansion of solids, liquids, and gases.
  • Thermodynamics: Laws of thermodynamics and their applications.

Week 6: Electricity and Magnetism

  • Electric Charges and Fields: Coulomb’s law, electric field, and electric potential.
  • Electric Currents: Ohm’s law, resistance, and circuits.
  • Magnetism: Magnetic fields, magnetic forces, and electromagnetism.

Week 7: Light and Optics

  • Nature of Light: Wave-particle duality, electromagnetic spectrum, and light propagation.

  • Interference and Diffraction: Interference patterns, diffraction gratings, and the double-slit experiment.

Week 8: Modern Physics
